One day left for the Year 2010. This month we completed our first 12 months of debt repayments; 48 months to go. The year went by fast. I am extremely pleased that my husband and I made it a routine that as soon as the paycheck comes (we're on a single income), the first two payments always go to the rent and the trustee. It's a lot easier to live off with what's left.
I am trying to think how exactly we survived as we have had months when we were literally down to the last penny. This month of December is a good example: there's $0 in our bank account and the paycheck won't come until January 3. We wanted to celebrate Christmas in the most inexpensive way we could. We weren't frivolous but we had little somethings for the kids. Right now, we probably have $3 and some change in cash to get us through the last three days until pay day. It is nerve-racking, but we have enough food in the fridge. We'll have to live off of eggs for the next three days! I am just grateful that all else is paid, but most importantly, I am extremely blessed that my kids and my husband are healthy.
I never minded having a budget. In fact, before this mess, I handled our expenses. But along the lines, I got lazy and stopped caring about what's in our bank account. Credit card charges happened left and right. It was very easy, especially when living a certain lifestyle in New York City. Now in Chapter 13, budgeting is a little bit different. I have to be more creative because we now have more expenses that beforeāit's more expensive with kids.
My husband and I looking forward to another successful year in 2011. We're very determined to reach our goal. I do hope that every now and then I can post something useful and inspirational to everyone experiencing the same financial situation. Until then... here's to a wonderful new year 2011!
